Winter in Krasnaya Polyana: how to plan a ski holiday without overpaying

Krasnaya Polyana long ago stopped being a 'backup Austria' — people come here on purpose: for the long season, world-class hotels and slopes to suit any style. But peak-season prices bite, so it's best to start planning a winter holiday in the mountains back in summer.

When to go and when to book

The best snow runs from late January through March, while the priciest weeks are around New Year. To strike a balance between price and skiing, look at the second half of January. Hotels by the lifts sell out first: book 4–6 months ahead — in summer, early-booking rates offer discounts of up to 25%.

Ski-pass, rentals and logistics

A single ski-pass covers all three resorts on the ridge — a multi-day pass is better value. Rentals down in the valley are cheaper than at the upper stations. The airport transfer takes 50–70 minutes: we include it in the package, along with ski insurance.
«A ski holiday begins not on the slope but six months earlier — when you book the right hotel at the summer price.»

In short: curator's tips

Book ski-in/out hotels 4–6 months ahead
A multi-day ski-pass beats paying per lift
The second half of January is the best balance of price and snow
Insurance should cover off-piste skiing if you plan to freeride
