5 early-booking mistakes that cost you money

Every spring we see the same picture: travellers book a 'great-value' tour six months ahead, then lose money on surcharges, non-refundable rates and exchange-rate swings. Early booking is a great tool, but it comes with rules.
The main mistakes
First — taking a non-refundable rate without cancellation insurance. Second — not locking the price in roubles: some operators recalculate the surcharge at the exchange rate on the day of payment. Third — booking a hotel without up-to-date reviews: in six months a hotel can close half its grounds for renovation.
How we do it
We lock the price with a 30% deposit, always offer cancellation insurance and check the renovation status with the operator before booking. If a tour's price drops after a promotion, we rebook you at the lower rate — it's legal and it works.
In short: curator's tips
✓Always add cancellation insurance to a non-refundable rate
✓Lock the price in roubles when you pay the deposit
✓Check the hotel's renovation plans
✓Keep an eye on the price after booking — it can be rebooked
